The sombre, moving painting of a video constructed for Relocate was directed by Nathalia Acevedo. After meeting at Kauf’s very first show in Los Angeles, the two DJ’ed together at Mexico City’s MN Roy, and then began collaborating on the video.
The Paris filmed, androgynous and amorphous, staring images that crystallize throughout Relocate only hint at the unrest behind the song’s cryptic lyrics, “We never see what only you can say – we are ready for it.” Rather than focus on a narrative, the video simply let’s the listener be transfixed by the music and the singular emotion of the four oscillating subjects.

“I just took what is dear to me—I like to open the doors so you can look inside……… Some people never show those things to others because they are private, whereas a bedroom is only walls with a bed. I wasn’t afraid to do that, so I didn’t need to be brave. For me intimacy resides somewhere else.” Carlos Reygadas for NOWNESS…
